The Main Story is an independent Canadian publication covering politics, crime, poverty and the social issues shaping the country. We publish analysis and long-form journalism in the tradition of the great dailies, set in the style of a nightly edition.

Our mission

Canada's hard stories — the tariff fight, the housing gap, the overdose crisis, the food bank line — deserve careful reporting, not just headlines. We aim to explain how these issues connect, what the numbers actually say, and what is being done about them, in language anyone can follow.

Editorial standards

• Accuracy — we verify figures against primary sources (Statistics Canada, Health Canada, federal agencies, published reports) and attribute them clearly.
• Fairness — we present the substance of differing viewpoints on contested policy questions.

The Main Story is privately operated. Advertising, when it appears, is clearly labelled and does not influence our editorial decisions.
